Taking your cat to the vet

Oftentimes, I am contacted by email to ask about what to do when a cat has certain symptoms and what may be the causes of these symptoms. Of course, even though, I may have an idea of what it may mean, I am not a veterinarian and I will suggest that the pet owner seeks the advice of his or her vet. If I had a vet license, I would not give advice via email or try to diagnose the cat’s symptoms then without doing an examination.

The same is true for you. Never assume what the causes to the symptoms are. Your delay in taking your cat to the vet may prove to be a bad decision. You should know all there is about your cat. If your cat is a diabetic or has a heart condition, you should be aware of this and how to take care of your cat. Observe your cat on a daily basis. This is easy to do when you are able to spend time with your cat.

Never get too busy for your cat. Pay attention to your cat’s eating habits. If your cat suddenly loses the appetite to eat, it may be for a number of reasons, such as moving to a new place or having a new member of the family move in. Whether you know it or not, cats are sensitive. If this is not the case, then it is time to take your cat to the vet. Pay attention to your cat’s litter – how often it is done and its appearance.

Other things to consider are your cat’s physical and social activity. You are the one that know your cat the best. Watch for those little things that may cost your cat its health. When you are unsure, take the cat to the vet.
